“When the authorities of the Azerbaijani airport visited the VIP lounge that we developed for Turkish Airlines in Istanbul, they wanted to apply the idea of a shell inside a larger structure,” the project architects said.

The futuristic interior of the new terminal of Heydar Aliyev International Airport is a development of Turkish architects from the Autoban bureau
To link the interior design with the architecture of the airport, experts applied strict geometry to the design of cocoons, using a triangular pattern motif that echoes the pattern of the floor and pendant lighting system.

The construction contractor was MAPA, which completed all construction work, and through a subcontractor, SITA installed MEP systems and professional equipment for the airport.

The design and delightful facade of the building were completed by WAAGNER-BIRO. In addition, the architects Woods Bagot, engineers Buro Happold, VANDERLANDE, who designed and installed a modern baggage management system, CAVAG, installed platforms for passengers to enter telescopic ramps, and SCHINDLER, which provided all elevators and escalators, also worked on the development of the terminal.

Today, the Heydar Aliyev International Airport tops the list of the best among all airports in Russia and the CIS countries.
