On March 10, 1873, students of a Baku real school, under the guidance of the famous enlightener Hasan bey Zardabi, performed the comedy of MF Akhundov “The Vizier of the Lenkoran Khan”. Thus, the foundation was laid for a professional national theater, i.e. Academic National Drama Theater. In 1919, the first state theater was created by the union of small theater troupes.
Since its inception, the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater, based on classical traditions, has confidently advanced to the heights of modern stage culture and in a short time has passed a meaningful development path. The theater, which achieved outstanding success over the past period, became the artistic heritage of the people and took a worthy place in the social and cultural life of the country.
The Azerbaijan National Drama Theater has grown a generation of the strongest actors of the Azerbaijani scene. Numerous colorful, perfect images created with incomparable mastery on the stage of the theater by Mirzaaga Aliyev, Marzia Davudova, Alesker Alekperov, Adil Iskenderov, Okyuma Gurbanova, Ismail Osmanly, Fatma Gadri, Barat Shekinskaya, Leyla Badirbeyli Mammad Ghamedzamedov, Mamedan Mamedov in golden letters inscribed in the history of Azerbaijani culture and theater.
